We squeezed Field Day in just at the right time. Wednesday was a beautiful day to be outdoors before the heat moved in. Our students enjoyed the fun activities and games, slush, petting zoo, and face painting.

Yesterday, our 6th grade students returned from their annual camp trip. While we had a new location – Camp Eisner in Great Barrington, students had a great time bonding, exploring nature, and putting a capstone on their Holy Name experience.

“Habemus papam!” Those words announced that Cardinal Robert Prevost had been elected Pope by the College of Cardinals and created excitement in our corridors.
Our nursery and K1 began Mother’s Day a little early with their Mother’s Day celebration today. Thank you to everyone who attended and we wish all mothers a Happy Mother’s Day!

On Wednesday, Fr. Ferme celebrated an All-School Mass for Holy Week. The second grade served as our hosts. Throughout Lent, students have had confession and Teaching Masses, participated in the Rice Bowl Project, and made personal sacrifices in preparation for Easter Sunday. Yesterday, kindergarten students participated in their annual Easter egg hunt. We wish everyone a blessed and happy Easter.

If you walked into Finn Hall yesterday, you may have thought you had walked into the Majestic Theatre downtown. Miss Maturo’s classroom performed their production of “Underwater Adventures,” a play the students wrote themselves.

Fifth grade ELA had a special guest instructor today. Mr. Richard English, Ms. English’s father, visited the 5th grade to discuss his time as a naval aviator. He taught students about the navy, various aircraft, life aboard an aircraft carrier, and the science behind aviation.

This week students really enjoyed art classes in the redesigned Art Studio. The new furniture is comfortable, flexible, and fits students from nursery to sixth grade. Congratulations to Ms. Buckley for being one of four national winners in the contest sponsored by ABC and Abbott Elementary. We are grateful to WCVB for featuring Holy Name and the new Art Studio on Monday.

It was a busy day at Holy Name yesterday. In the morning, students completed some basketball-themed math activities as part of our “Math Madness” and then teams of 4th, 5th, and 6th graders took to the hardwood afterschool for Student Council’s second annual March Madness basketball tournament.

This afternoon Student Council sponsored a Pep Rally to celebrate our basketball teams and honor our 6th grade players. We even had a special guest – Fr. Denis!

We marked the beginning of Lent with Mass sponsored by the fourth grade on Wednesday. On their way to Mass that morning, one of the fourth grade classes left me a special gift. In religion, they had written and illustrated their own Book of Psalms; an idea suggested by a student after reading one of the psalms.

The glimpse of spring has been a welcome sight. Let’s hope it lasts. On the Friday before break, we announced a big batch of Eagle recipients. Those awards helped us fill our bulletin board. To celebrate, next Friday will be a casual day. We are already on our way to filling it again – we had 14 recipients receive Eagles this week. Recipients were announced during morning assembly and they are listed in the Eagle Awards section below.
